DFA Announces Temporary Delay in Some Passport Releases

Rye processed the renewal of his passport last April 1, 2009. He opt for the express processing which is 750 pesos (7 days processing)  because we are hoping to get it immediately to process some documents we need. He was advised that he will be getting it by April 15 because the following week has only 2 work days (fine). Then comes April 15 (Wednesday), he went to DFA only to find out that they cannot release yet his passport because of some TECHNICAL difficulties. Many people from very far places are waiting since April 13(Monday) for their passports to be release on that week. At the gate 2 of DFA, they were give a piece of paper (signed by some officer of DFA who’s name is not even printed on that paper) telling them that their passport will be release on the 17th. We went their again on the 18th(Saturday) but they are already closed (half day schedule only during Saturdays). Posted on the walls outside gate 2 is another notice that the passports that should have been released that week will be re-scheduled again for the another date which is April 21 (Tuesday). Again… the reason is Technical Difficulties.

Rye went to DFA, the day after his scheduled release that is supposed to be on the 17th because he wanted to make sure that he will be able to get his passport. And not WASTE any more MONEY & TIME. Unfortunately, he still won’t be able to get his passport until when? We don’t know. We don’t trust the notice on the wall, we don’t trust the public announcement on their website. We can’t even call their hotline.

On that piece of crap (i mean, paper) that they gave, is a DFA Hotline for the passport claiming. 8344000 local 4270. Try calling this number and the operator will just tell you over and over again that the LINE IS BUSY.

So how can we know that the passport is ready for pick-up already? Do we still need to go to DFA every now and then….JUST TO CHECK it!

This only shows how CRAPPY our system and processes are. GAAAAAHHHHD..i’m pissed.
